City of Lynn, MA

Des Lauriers has been providing ongoing GIS service for the City of Lynn since 2004.  The initial phase of the project was to take the individual tax maps and combine them all into a single base map in which all future tax maps would be based. In addition, the parcel  boundary lines were registered to MassGIS’s orthophotos to achieve the accuracy required by MassGIS Standard for Digital Parcel Files Level 2.

Following the completion of the city wide GIS parcel datalayer, numerous maps were created at the city's request such as:

• Lynn City Street Map
• Lynn Zoning Map
• Lynn Ward Map
• Lynn Recycling Route Map
• Lynn Snow Plowing Route Map
• Lynn Woods Map

City of Lynn’s Fire Department also requested Des Lauriers to assist in setting up procedures to locate and capture all fire hydrants in the city.  A recommendation was made to the city as to the specific GPS data collector to acquire.  Then Des Lauriers developed a data dictionary to ease the data collection process.  Finally, several people were trained by Des Lauriers on the operation of the GPS data collector, in addition to Trimble’s Pathfinder Office in order to download and process the data collected.
